- Sirens are an outdoor warning system designed only to alert those who are outside that something dangerous is approaching.

- People should be indoors and monitoring local media for updates on the storm. The intent of the outdoor warning siren system is to alert people to go inside and gather more information.
- Who activates the outdoor warning sirens?
- Activation of the outdoor warning siren system is a cooperative effort by the Bethany Police and Fire Departments. On duty Dispatchers and Fire department personnel will monitor the weather conditions and sound the sirens when a dangerous storm is approaching Bethany.
- The Fire Chief will be notified anytime Oklahoma County is under a severe weather warning (i.e., tornado, flash flood, high winds, etc.)
- Tornado Watch: At least one person will be assigned to monitor radio and television broadcasts until severe weather conditions subside.
- Tornado Warning: If deemed necessary by the Shift Commander, the warning sirens will be sounded while under this condition. The Shift Commander shall use television reports and information from Dispatch to come to this conclusion.
- If severe weather conditions arise during normal sleeping hours, it will be the 911 Dispatcher’s responsibility to notify the Shift Commander as to changing conditions.
- If fire units are involved in emergency situation when severe weather conditions arise, it will be the 911 Dispatcher’s responsibility to monitor severe weather condition and sound sirens, if necessary.
- In the event a direct hit to the fire station is forecast, the Battalion Chief, or acting Battalion Chief, shall make every attempt to protect personnel and equipment by staging in a safe area until it is safe to return to the station or city.
